Recent works on paper explore a wide variety of marks using drawing materials and textiles. Stressing these surfaces through the process of staining, burning, tearing and scraping reflects the metaphoric marks left on us and on our land through the living of our lives. Figurative drawings consider our inner thoughts and experiences and reflect what it feels like to be a human being. Louise has carried the creative process of building up and tearing down from her figurative clay sculptures to works on paper. The pigment choices in this new work have also been transcribed from her clay practice as well as an aggressive approach to the application of marks. The change from three dimensional expression to two dimensions has been aided by using the space implied by non- representational marks as a setting for the figure. |
